Cost of 30" Prehung Door

Investing in a 30-inch prehung door provides both practicality and style, catering to spaces with more constrained entry requirements. The cost of 30" slab door, can vary based on factors such as material, design, and additional features. Generally, prehung doors come as a complete unit with the door slab, frame, and hinges pre-assembled, simplifying the installation process.

Being the smallest standard size, a 30" door costs the same price as a 32", 34" or 36" one. However, homeowners can expect a range of prices depending on their specific preferences, making a 30-inch door with a frame a versatile and convenient choice for those seeking an efficient and cost-effective solution for their exterior entryways.

✅ Door type 30" Prehung Door
✅ Installation cost $600-800
✅ The cheapest 30" door $700
✅ The most expensive 30" door $2500+
  • Door Configuration: a single door is the cheapest and it goes up in price when you add another door, sidelite or transom.
  • Door Size: standard door size is 30”; 32”; 34” or 36” in width and 79.5” in height. Everything else (e.g. 28-inch exterior door) is a custom size, which adds to the price.
  • Door Design: there are some common classic solid door designs and there are some more modern options, but the price difference is small.
  • Door Glass Design: clear glass is usually the cheapest; one texture privacy glass is more (ex. sandblast, rain, chinchilla, etc. and they range in price); design glass is next in line (the different designs range in price), and on the top of the list is wrought iron (they also range in price) There are some exceptions though.
  • Door Glass Size: the bigger the glass the more it is, considering you are choosing from the standard sizes because a smaller custom glass size will cost you more than a standard bigger one. Most common standard sizes: 22x36” (half the door); 22x48” (3/4 of the door); 22x64” (full size).
  • Sidelite: there is a sidelite with a panel, which basically has an edge around the glass and there is a direct glass sidelite, where the glass is encased into a frame. The 2nd one is cheaper, But it all changes once you add the glass to it, then it all depends on the glass design and the size because for the direct glaze sidelite the glass must be custom made.
  • Transom: the size of the transom dictates its price and also the shaped one is extra.
  • Color: white color is free, color for the outside is extra (e.g. if you want to opt-in for the black front door) plus more if you add the color inside. Stain for the fiberglass is more than paint and the fibreglass door must be painted or stained on both sides.
  • Lock and handle: the design and even the color finish makes a difference. The price range is big here from a simple deadbolt with a lever to a multipoint lock or one with a pull bar handle.
  • Miscellaneous customizations: there is a wide range of other design features that can customize your door and change its price: executive panels, stainless steel lines and inserts, grooves or nails/clavos, decorative shelves; mouldings, sill color, frame depth, etc.

Our clients ask

  • What is the actual size of a 30" door?

Yes, if you measure just the door slab, it should be 29.75 inches wide x 79.5 inches high. But if you need the size with the frame, it will be 31.5" x 82.25", not including the brickmold. The height can be trimmed though if a shorter door is needed.

  • How do you measure an exterior residential door for replacement?

Measuring an exterior door for replacement involves taking accurate measurements of both the width and height to ensure the new door fits properly within the existing frame. Here's a step-by-step guide:

    Tools Needed:

    • Tape measure
    • Pencil and paper for recording measurements

    Steps:

    Width Measurement:

    • Measure the width of the door with the frame and brickmold outside taking brick to brick size. Measure in three places: near the top, middle, and bottom.
    • Note the smallest of the three measurements. This ensures that the new door will fit even if the frame is slightly out of square.

    Height Measurement:

    • Measure the height of the door with the frame and brickmold outside taking brick to brick size. Again, measure in three places: left side, center, and right side.
    • Note the smallest of the three measurements for the door height.

    Consider Sidelites or Transom:

    • If your door has sidelites (vertical windows on the sides) or a transom (horizontal window above), measure them together with the door. They come prehung as one unit with a door.

    Thickness Measurement:

    • Measure the frame of the door. It is the depth of the frame without casing and brickmold. Standard sizes are 4 5/8“ and 6 5/8“

    Swing Direction:

    • Determine the door swing direction (inward or outward) and whether it swings to the left or right when standing outside. This is essential for ordering the correct pre-hung door.

Always double-check your measurements before purchasing a new exterior door, and consider consulting with a professional if you have any doubts or if the replacement involves more complex features like sidelites or transoms.

  • Are 30-inch doors common?

While 30-inch exterior doors are less common compared to wider options, they are used in certain situations, where the narrow opening is sufficient. Exterior doors are typically wider than interior doors to accommodate the main entryway of a home and allow for ease of passage. Common widths for exterior doors often start at 32 inches and can go up to 36 inches or more.

  • Can you buy just the exterior door?

There are several reasons for replacing a door, including better appearance and curb appeal, increased security, or because the old door has become worn or otherwise damaged. The question then becomes, can you replace a door without replacing the frame? The answer is yes, you can. As long as the door frame is in good condition, and the new door panel is the same size as the old one, replacing a door without replacing the frame is not a recommended option for the best seal, but certainly a possibility.

  • How much does it cost to install a 30” entry door?

The cost to install a 30-inch entry door can vary based on several factors, including the type of door, materials, additional features, and the complexity of the installation. Here are some general considerations:

    Type of Door:

    • The cost will depend on the type of entry door you choose. Different materials (wood, steel, fiberglass), styles, and features can affect the overall price. The basic range is $700-$1,300

    Additional Features:

    • Any additional features, such as sidelites, transoms, or decorative glass, can impact the overall cost.

    Labor Costs:

    • Installation costs can vary based on your location, the complexity of the installation, and the rates charged by the contractor. The basic range is $600-$800
