What Is An Awning Window?

An awning type window is hinged at the top and opens outward from the bottom, creating an "awning-like" effect when open. This design allows the front window frame to provide ventilation and secure the interior from rain and debris. 

Awning-style windows are somewhat similar to casement windows in terms of how they are built and operated but with one notable difference - it is that awning windows are hinged at the top instead of the side.
